The Estonian Doctoral School supports cooperation between universities to improve the quality and attractiveness of doctoral studies. The doctoral school was launched in January 2024, and the project end date is 31 August 2029. The total project budget is €7 million, covered by the Estonian state and the European Social Fund.

The doctoral school events are open to all doctoral students and their supervisors at Estonian universities who are interested. Within the doctoral school, cross-disciplinary knowledge is shared, and future skills are developed with the support of external experts. Among other things, the doctoral school allows doctoral students to broaden their research horizons and expand their professional network and collaboration opportunities.

The doctoral school supports supervisors through events focusing on supervision skills, where it is possible to learn from each other’s experiences and introduce didactic techniques with the help of professional educators.

In addition, the doctoral school supports the involvement of experts from Estonian and international universities and evaluated research and development institutions in co-supervising, mentoring and advising doctoral theses. To some extent, the project supports doctoral students’ short-term international mobility.

The Estonian Doctoral School has six specialised sections, offering learning opportunities and support relevant to the field.
